Bookings
Welcome to the homepage of Hamurana Skies Limited. We offer guided astronomical tours and the opportunity to explore objects in the space through our powerful and fully database-controlled telescopes.
We operate our guided astronomy tours in a bortel three rated rural sky. There are no streetlights at Hamurana, so we have minimal light pollution which means the milky way shows clearly. As well as locals we have had very happy customers from Australia, France, Germany, India, the USA, and the UK.
We offer guided astronomical tours which are limited to small groups numbers to offer more time on telescopes. These guided astronomical tour last about ninety minutes. Objects that we look at on our guided astronomical tours include the moon, planets, binary stars, nebulae, and galaxies. We discuss star life cycles, space time, and the scale of the solar system and the universe.
We also offer full moon tours which start earlier and last about an hour. On our full moon tours we discuss moon phases, the tides, what the moon is made of, the Apollo landings and why the moon is so important for the existence of life on Earth. Our full moon tours work particularly well for younger children.
We are located about twenty minutes north of Rotorua. Astronomy is weather dependent and we generally only operate when there is more than 30% cloud cover. We require a $20 booking deposit per person, we then confirm that weather conditions are suitable on the day of the tour and accept eftpos payments for the balance on site before the tours begin. Please feel free to contact us to attend one of our astronomy sessions.
Please note: The booking deposit is fully refunded if the tour is cancelled due to weather. Although the booking deposit is not refundable if the customer cancels in less than 24 hours before the session starts.

FAQs
My wife and I are both keen astronomy enthusiasts and members of the Rotorua Astronomical Society. We moved back to the Bay of Plenty District at Hamurana in 2021 to discover a beautiful bortle three rated rural sky in our backyard.
Visitors from Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, India, the UK, and the USA have joined us in our backyard and have been amazed at what there is to be seen in the skies above the large and secluded grounds of our property .
